essie dressed to the nineties (fall 2017)

i am not that into essie polishes as i find their shades to be usually too commercial for me, even though i love their brush. but, i spotted dressed to the nineties from their fall collection and had to go for it.

i had a feeling that this shade would not be as spectacular on the nails as it is in the bottle. in some of the photos, you can see the bottle, and i really wish it looked like that. nevertheless, it's a cool shade. the colour is deep purple/violet, with fine green/blue, almost iridescent shimmer. formula is amazing, it practically flows. if the effect was stronger, i would absolutely adore it!

sexy divide je stari essie lak, još iz kolekcije za zimu 2008.

sexy divide is a really old essie polish, back from the winter collection of 2008.

 

ovaj lak i ja imamo komplikovan odnos. dobila sam ga na poklon kada sam kupovala neke druge lakove, i prvo mislila da je odličan poklon, jer šta može biti bolje od šimerastog, ljubičastog lepotana.

na žalost, ima vodenu, tešku formulu uz staru tanku četkicu. skoro pa je mučenje mazati ga. iz nekog razloga verujem da je nova formula sa novom širokom četkicom bolja, ali nemam iskustva s njim. ipak, i ovu moju verziju nosim s vremena na vreme jer je ipak lep.

this polish and me have a complicated relationship. i got it as a present when i was buying polishes on one blog sale. initially i thought it's great i got it, because what can be better than a shimmery, purple gorgeousness.

but, it has a runny, difficult formula, combined with the old thin brush. it is almost a torture applying it. for some reason i think that the new formula with the wide brush is much better, but i have no evidence. nevertheless, i still wear it from time to time because it is pretty.

essie naughty nautical (summer 2013)

another title of this post, where i'm showing essie naughty nautical from their summer 2013 collection, could be "if you have this option, run and buy this polish as fast as you can"!

i'm not really mad about essie. i don't know what really puts me off this brand, but i never look into new collections and drool over them. luckily, i saw swatches of this one, and i immediately fell in love.

essie describes it as "shimmering, brilliant blue-green nail polish". it bears resemblance to my other love, essence mojito green, only this one's slightly bluer and the silver glass-flecked shimmer is larger. it's somewhere between being blue and teal, which makes it hard to capture, and i think you ought to imagine it just slightly greener than the in the images. the shimmer is amazing, always visible but not in your face. 

the formula is amazing, the polish basically applies itself. i can see myself wearing this one quite often, so, if you have the chance, i advise you not to pass on it, since i think it goes well with various skintones.

prošli petak je bio posvećen lakovima sa nama najboljim imenom, tako da sam morala da otrčim do lilly-ja i kupim essie jamaica me crazy, pošto mi je to najbolje ime ikad. tad sam shvatila da mi je ova dive bar kolekcija najbolja koju je essie ikad napravio. mislim, dive bar, sexy divide i trophy wife, teško da može bolje od toga.

dugo vremena sam odolevala essikama, jer je jedina verzija koja je mogla da se nađe ona sa tankom četkicom, a i nihove boje me nikad nisu nešto obarale s nogu. sad, kad konačno imamo široku, drugstore četkicu, možda im dam šansu.

last friday had "favourite nail polish name", so i had to buy essie jamaica me crazy, because this is my all time favourite name. then i realized, this dive bar collection is, for me, the best essie ever had. i mean, dive bar, sexy divide and trophy wife, it can't get better than that.


for a long time, i hesitated in buying essies. the only type available in serbia was the tiny brush type, i also never really fell for any of their colors, but now, when we finally have the flat brush drugstore version, i might change my mind and get a couple

jamaica me crazy nije moja tipična boja, ali sam rešila da je probam jer nemam ni jednu magentu u kolekciji. ispostavilo se da je prilično dobra boja, iako je magenta, ima dosta ljubičastog podtona koji ga čini više mojim tipom, i ima prelep suptilni ljubičasti šimer.

ovo je moj prvi essie sa širokom četkicom, i odgovara mi. takođe, formula je odlična, ne ostavlja ćelava mesta i daje dobru pokrivenost.

slikala sam ih u mom rodnom gradu, i shvatila sam da ni jedan deo mog stana nije pod direktnim svetlom (ne računajući 5 ujutro). zato sve slike izgledaju kao da sam u hladu, iako sam se verala po prozorima i terasi.

sa nadlakom, prirodna svetlost:

jamaica me crazy is not ma typical color, but i have no magentas in my collection so i decided to give it a try. it turned out to be quite good. even though it is magenta, it has a purple undertone that makes it more my type, and gorgeous subtle purple shimmer. 

this is my first wide brush essie, and i'm happy with it. also, the formula was great, no bold spots, good coverage.

i took the photos back in my home town, and i realized that no parts of my building are turned towards the sun (ok, they are at 5 am, but that's not a "normal time"), that's why the photos look like they're taken in the shade, even though i was at the window or the balcony.

comparison: essence blue addicted vs essence cold breeze (over essie midnight cami)

u mom poslednjem postu, spomenula sam da je moja bočica essence blue addicted potrošena :( od kad sam kupila njihov nadlak cool breeze, imala sam ideju da, uz odgovarajuću baznu boju, može da se dobije sličan efekat. odlučila sam da ga namažem preko essie midnight cami, pa da vidimo rezultat.

in my last post, i mentioned that my bottle of essence blue addicted is finished :( and, ever since i got their cool breeze topper, i had an idea that, with a proper base color, it could make a similar effect. i chose to wear it over essie midnight cami, so let's see what i got.

na svim slikama, blue addicted je na kažiprstu i srednjem prstu, a kombinacija cool breeze + midnight cami na srednjem i malom.

može se primetiti da cool breeze nema sitne svetloplave šljokice, već žute slične veličine. velike šestougaone oplaescentne šljokice su iste u oba laka.


tako da, ova kombinacija nije baš identična sa blue addicted, ali se može reći da liči. naravno, prisutan je i problem očigledne razlike između šljokičavog nadlaka i šljokičavog laka na površini nokta,

in all the pictures, blue addicted is on the index and ring finger, and the cool breeze + midnight cami combo on the middle and little finger.

as you can see, cool breeze doesn't have the small light blue glitter, but some yellow glitter of similar size. the large hexagonal opalescence ones are the same in both polishes.

so, bottom line, it's not really a dupe to blue addicted, but it kind of looks like it. and, of course, there's always that issue that you can always see, from the surface, if it is a topper or a glittery polish.

toliko sam zaljubljena u novi essence topper, cool breeze, da ga nosim po drugi put u poslednjih par nedelja.

i'm completely in love with essence's new topper, cool breeze, that i'm wearing for the second time in the last couple of weeks.

ljuspice se nalaze u providnoj bazi, i većina je šestougaona, sa dodatnim manjim šestougaonicima. oduševljena sam efektom koji daje ovaj lak i ne mogu da prestanem da gledam u nokte! ljuspice se prelivaju u bojama od tirkizne do ljubičaste, dok ove manje uglavnom izgledaju zlatno. formula je iznenađujuće dobra, možda malo gušća sli prilično jednostavna za korišćenje.

najbolje izgleda preko tamnih lakova, zbog refleksije i kontrasta, tako da sam kao bazu izabrala essie midnight cami.

prirodna svetlost:

flakies are suspended in a clear base, and the majority is hexagonal, with additional smaller hexagons. i really love the effect this polish gives, i can't stop looking at my nails. the flakies transform from turquoise to even purple, while the smaller ones usually look loke gold particles. the formula was surprisingly good, maybe a bit thick but really easy to work with.

it goes best over dark shades, because of the contrast and reflection, so i used essie midnight cami as a base.

essence time for romance je jedan od mojih omiljenih topera, ako to uopšte mogu da kažem jer ih volim sve :) posebno mi je efektan ako se maže preko tamno plavih ili crnih lakova.

essence time for romance is one of my favorite toppers, if i dare say, because i love them all! this one seems especially effective to me, if i layer it over dark blue or black polishes.

kada sam počela da pišem ovaj post, shvatila sam da nikad ne krenem sa idejom kako bih mogla da stavim neki topper, pa da biram lak koji bi išao uz njega, nego ih uvek koristim da malo "začinim" stvari sa lakom kog već imam na sebi dan ili dva.

now that i think of it, it seems that i never start with the idea of wearing a certain topper and then choosing the base color that will go with it, but i always use them to spice things up a bit on a polish after one or two days.

essie midnite cami from cuddle with color collection is my first essie ever. 

dobila sam ga na poklon od jedne drage lakoholičarke, koja očigledno zna koje boje volim, pošto je izabrala ovu prelepu duboku teget nijansu!

četkica je slična china glaze, tj. tanka. ja više volim šire četkice, ali pošto je formula solidna, nije mi pravila veći problem. šimer nije preterano izražen, vidi se samo na jakoj svetlosti.

i got it as a gift from one of my wonderful nail polish addict friends. she obviously knows me color preferences well, since she chose the color that is desribed as "a shimmering deep twilight blue".

the brush is similar to the china glaze's, or should i say, thin :) i prefer wider brushes, but the formula is good so i had little problems. shimmer is quite discreet and visible only in strong light.
